“Grahamtastic Connection Receives 50 Laptops from the IRS”
–May, 2009 – MaineBusiness.com highlights: Laptops Help Critically Ill Children Connect.
May 6. 2009,
Boston, MA: Grahamtastic Connection, a
Maine–based non–profit that provides
laptops and internet access to
critically ill children, recently
received a donation of 50 gently used
laptops from the IRS Criminal
Investigation Boston Field Office.
This is the second major donation of
used IRS laptops to Grahamtastic. In
2004, the IRS donated 50 gently used
laptops, which were distributed to sick
children nationwide.
Grahamtastic Connection works with
doctors, social workers and hospitals
across the nation, providing laptops and
internet access to children who are
house bound or hospitalized due to
illness. Leslie Morissette of
Springvale, Maine founded Grahamtastic
after she lost her young son, Graham, to
leukemia. Over the last 11 years,
Grahamtastic has supported over 200
children in 35 states.
“The IRS has already touched the lives
of children from Maine to California
with the donation of 50 laptops five
years ago,” said Leslie Morissette of
Grahamtastic Connection. “The latest
donation of 50 laptops will replenish
our lending library which allows
children to connect from home and
hospital.”
Boston Field Office Special Agent in
Charge Susan Dukes stated, “IRS Criminal
Investigation is pleased to provide
support to Grahamtastic Connection’s
worthwhile mission. It is gratifying to
be able to help critically ill children
obtain internet access through the
donation of our outdated computer
equipment. As criminal investigators we
see so much fraud and wrong doing that
we feel fortunate to be able to
participate in a program that does good
work.”
“Connecting through technology and the
internet is vital to children who suffer
from critical illnesses” said
Morissette. “Often these children are
cut off from teachers and their friends.
Using a laptop and the internet, they
can connect to their classrooms to learn
and to their friends to socialize as
they struggle through their illness.”
